Brownbag #72 (3/27, Thur, 3:30pm, YH3047)

Hello everyone,

This week we will spend some more time looking at virus evolution and we
will focus specifically on RNA recombination. The paper we will discuss
is "Recombination in Alphaviruses" by James H. Strauss and Ellen G.
Strauss (Seminars in Virology 8 (1997) 85-94,
http://dx.doi.org/10.1006/smvy.1997.0115). Some other papers you might
want to look at (and that we might talk about as well) are: "RNA
recombination in animal and plant viruses" by Michael M. C. Lai
(Microbiological Reviews 56 (1992) 61-79,
http://mmbr.asm.org/cgi/reprint/56/1/61), "Western equine encephalitis
virus is a recombinant virus" by Chang S. Hahn et al. (PNAS 85 (1988)
5997-6001, http://www.pnas.org/cgi/reprint/85/16/5997) and "Genesis of
Sindbis Virus by in vivo recombination of nonreplicative RNA precursors"
by Ramaswamy Rau et al. (J. Virology 69 (1995) 7391-7401,
http://jvi.asm.org/cgi/reprint/69/12/7391).

See you this Thursday at 3:30 pm in Bill's office,

Peter
