Hello all,
Today's talk by Leonid Chernomordik (NIH) suggested that the aggregation
of protein receptors at the enveloped-virus/host membrane junction plays a
dominant role in inducing the fusion of the envelope membrane with that of
the host cell.
On the contrary, recent work done in the Groves lab at berkely claimed
that electrostatics plays a dominant role in stabilizing the junction
between two bilayers despite the presence of proteins.
In light of the above, the following paper from the Groves lab seems
appropriate for discussion on friday.
