Folks,

Tomorrow, we'll revisit the paper from Journal Club #99 titled "Nanoengineering artificial lipid envelopes around Adenovirus by self-assembly", which was not completely discussed the first time around. If you did not keep your reprint, you'll find a link at the original announcement here: http://virus.chem.ucla.edu/node/337.

See you tomorrow!

Ajay

Dear Virus Enthusiasts,

Tomorrow, we'll discuss a truly historic paper from 1898 (not a typo, thats 111 yrs ago), the first ever report of an "unfilterable" virus from animal hosts!

The paper was originally in German and its translated title reads as: "Report of the Commission for Research on the Foot-and-Mouth Disease" by Freidrich Loeffler and Paul Frosch.

Dear Colleagues,

We meet this friday again at 1pm to accommodate Aron's teaching schedule. The paper this week is an AFM study of Herpes virus DNA translocation through the nuclear pore complex titled:

"The genome of HSV-1 translocates through the nuclear pore as a condensed rod-like structure" [Journal of Cell Science 119, 23-30 (2006)]

Reprints are available at http://dx.doi.org/10.1242/jcs.02705 .

See you all friday!

Brownbag #101 Today YH2050 12:30pm (format changed)

Dear Journal Club Members,

Since this is a late announcement for today's journal club and will not allow us enough time to read a paper, we have a different format for today's discussion.

Chuck, Jaime and Bill will each present their thoughts on one of the following papers:

1) Interaction between a 54-Kilodalton Mammalian Cell Surface Protein and Cowpea Mosaic Virus
http://dx.doi.org/10.1128/JVI.00960-06

Brownbag #100 (04/17/09, Fri, 1:00pm, YH2050)

Hello everyone,

This Friday we will have our 100th journal club meeting! We will have a small party to celebrate this and we will discuss the classic paper by Crick and Watson: "Structure of small viruses" Nature 177 (1956) 473-475 (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v177/n4506/pdf/177473a0.pdf).

We will meet at 1 pm at the usual place (YH2050).
